
I also have experience as both a county and state prosecutor. In that role, I oversaw all legal issues impacting Chester County government. Immediately before my judicial appointment in July 2022, I was the solicitor for the county. Additionally, I have twenty years of relevant legal experience prior to taking the bench. There would be no delay or catch up required. Should I be elected, then on day one in January 2024, I would be able to continue the work that I am currently doing. Is the job of a Common Pleas Judge more than “calling balls and strikes?” If so, what’s the other one big responsibility? The job of a Common Pleas Court judge is in part to call balls and strikes but it is also to be knowledgeable on the law and able to critically analyze the facts in order to render decisions timely without fear or favor. The fact that there are no public defenders to serve as a counterpoint to the former prosecutors and private attorneys on the bench is unfathomable for a judicial bench in modern day society. I would be the first female public defender to serve, if elected. However, judges are given the mandate to interpret the law even if this means creating new law in the process. A candidate for judicial office is prohibited from making statements with respect to cases that may come before the court.

The best opportunity to effectuate reform rests in the hands of the legislature, such as ending mandatory driver’s license suspensions for drug crimes unrelated to driving. I have spent most of my career making sure my indigent clients were treated the same as the wealthy and protecting marginalized communities from the government’s vast power. There is a responsibility to level the playing field and ensure both sides are playing by the same rules at the game’s start. We have a justice system where one side gets the benefit of too many balls called and the other gets too many strikes called. Many clients have trusted me to resolve their substantial, and sometimes newsworthy, disputes. I have been in courtrooms from Allegheny County to Chester County and I have the experience and ability to handle the wide variety of cases that the Court of Common Pleas adjudicates.
